About Vincent Ohwojero

Vincent Ohwojero is a governance professional, applied researcher, and writer whose work examines how leadership, policy, and institutional systems shape organisational and human outcomes.

Combining over fifteen years of senior leadership experience in sports administration with applied research and international training, he supports organisations to strengthen governance, leadership capability, and organisational performance within complex public-sector and community environments.

Professional Journey

My career began in Nigeria, where I worked extensively across public-sector and community sport systems. Over more than fifteen years, I held senior administrative and leadership roles, contributing to governance reform, programme delivery, athlete preparation, and institutional coordination at state and multi-stakeholder levels.

My work has spanned grassroots, regional, and multi-state contexts, strengthening governance structures, improving accountability, and supporting participation and performance outcomes. I now bring this international practitioner experience to support UK-based sport organisations and public-interest bodies navigating governance, leadership, and performance challenges.

Academic and Research Profile

I hold a Master of Business Administration (MBA) from the University of Sunderland (UK) and a Professional Certificate in Sport Management issued by the International Olympic Committee (IOC).

I am a member of the Chartered Institute of Public Finance and Accountancy (CIPFA) and the European Association for Sport Management (EASM).

My academic and research work is grounded in applied governance practice. I have recently published the book:

Practical Governance and Accountability in Sport Organisations: Field-Tested Lessons and Practical Governance Tools (2026)

The book draws on extensive public-sector sport administration experience and integrates recognised governance frameworks with real-world organisational dynamics. It examines governance in practice — including board–management relations, accountability systems, leadership behaviour, organisational culture, and multi-level governance — and provides practical tools for boards, executives, and senior administrators.

In addition to this publication, I have published applied research outputs on governance and accountability in sport (Zenodo), reinforcing my practitioner-researcher orientation.

I am currently developing doctoral (PhD) research focused on governance systems, leadership behaviour, and policy implementation, with particular interest in how governance frameworks translate into operational practice within public-sector and community sport organisations.

Broadening Research Interest

While his foundational work is rooted in sports governance, Vincent’s research lens has expanded into broader social systems — particularly migration, labour structures, and identity formation within policy environments.

This evolution reflects a consistent underlying question that connects his work across domains:

How do systems, policies, and institutional design shape behaviour, opportunity, dignity, and lived experience?

This inquiry underpins his forthcoming book:

Beyond the Illusion of a Better Life Abroad:
Migration, Identity, and the Cost of Leaving

The book examines migration not only as an economic decision but as a structural and human experience shaped by policy, labour systems, and cultural displacement.

Professional Philosophy

My approach is practice-driven, evidence-based, and outcome-focused. I work collaboratively with boards, executives, and senior administrators to design governance and leadership solutions that are:

  • Realistic and implementable
  • Context-sensitive
  • Aligned with recognised governance and accountability standards
  • Focused on long-term institutional credibility and performance

I view governance not as compliance alone, but as a leadership discipline that shapes behaviour, decision-making, and organisational culture.
